We’re passionate ambassadors of British produce at the Duke – after all, a big part of being a proper British pub is serving up brilliant British grub! Our food isn’t traditional pub fodder – we like to think it’s got a little something special – but we take pride in finding the best British suppliers to serve you with.
We get no end of compliments about the amazing meat we serve on our menus, whether you’re tucking into a hearty steak on Friday night or enjoying one of our infamous Sunday roasts. All of our delicious fresh meat comes from our friends at H.G. Walter, a family-run butchery business that’s been around since 1972.
H.G. Walter only work with small British farmers who have incredibly high standards around their free-range farming techniques. Every animal is beautifully cared for throughout its life, then hand picked by the H.G. Walter team. For such a big business, this process is still very personal, and we love that – it means we always know the meat we get into the pubs is of absolutely supreme quality.
You can always find one of H.G. Walter’s beautiful steaks on our main menus in both pubs – we like ours gnarly and flavourful on the outside, tender and pink on the inside, served with our house skinny fries and dunked in creamy peppercorn sauce. Or, if you’re a Sunday roast fanatic, you have your choice of free-range baby chicken, classic roast beef or some seriously special lamb, all provided by H.G. Walter and served with all the trimmings.
