Meet the team: Shane Rose

Our team make us who we are — they’re the people on the ground giving the pubs all the personality we know you love. This month, we’re shining a light on our General Manager at The Clifton, Shane Rose.

When did you start out at The Clifton?

I started back in July 2017, so not long after the pub was refurbished and reopened. I was actually a manager at the old Clifton pub before it closed down, so when I saw it was being brought back to life I knew I had to come back and introduce myself to Ben, Ed and Adam.

Tell us a bit more about your role

I’m the General Manager so basically a little bit of everything! I look after the general running of the pub and make sure all the staff are coming in on time and we’ve got everything we need behind the bar and in the kitchen. I love it because I get to be the face of the business but also get stuck in behind the scenes, trying new products, testing things to make sure our customers will love them.

What’s your absolute favourite thing to eat?

You just can’t beat the buttermilk fried chicken burger. It’s my absolute favourite and I’m sure I’ve eaten way too many of them. I like to pimp mine up with a cheeky slice of crispy bacon or, if I’m having a really bad day, I might top it with a mac ‘n’ cheese croquette. Always with a side of broccoli though to balance things out!

Which dish from the past would you bring back and why?

The smoked haddock dish we did with cavolo nero, an oozy poached egg and Parmesan cream. I don’t know why but this dish hit all the right spots and I couldn’t get enough of it.

If you could do anything to the pub, what would it be?

To be honest, I love how it is now! One that thing would be great would be if we could use the back garden for our customers to relax in and potter around our little vegetable patch. Maybe one for the future.

When you’re not at The Clifton, where do you like to be?

If I’m not working I try to get as much time in at the driving range as possible for a bit of golf. Otherwise I spend a lot of time exploring other pubs and bars in London. Competitor research you might say!
